The Herbal Cache

As of the date of this article only 6 Municipality of Anchorage retail marijuana stores have opened their doors to the public for the purposes of selling recreational marijuana. The Alaska Marijuana industry is booming! At Enlighten Alaska located in Spenard Alaska I counted at least 150 people lined up outside their doors for their grand opening. The majority of retail shops are having a difficult time finding product to keep on the self. Why? Some say that the state approved retail stores before cultivators and therefore the cultivators haven’t yet caught up to meet the demand. Others claim that product is too bunk to sell so they have only opened the doors for a few hours at a time or until they run out of higher quality product. With such a high demand for marijuana the cultivators can basically produce a lower quality, even premature product and pretty much get the price they demand from retailers. This is not good for the retail shops though who’s reputations are ultimately at stake for selling low quality product just to keep their doors open. This scenario will ultimately balance out as more cultivators are approved offering much needed competition and an increase in supplies.  With an increase in the overall number of cultivators and supply levels the retail stores will be able to pick and choose from the higher quality products at a more competitive price. Basic supply and demand. A good example to take a look at is that some of the marijuana offered for retail here in Anchorage only tested out at 9-12% THC content which is relatively low compared to the more mature state of Colorado where the average THC content of recreational marijuana is said to be 18-22% with some strains like “Girl Scout Cookies” testing out at 28+% No matter how you look at it though the demand for recreational marijuana is very high and not only in Anchorage but state wide too. Some retail shops are traveling to Fairbanks and even Ketchikan to pick up product to retail in Anchorage. So, if you plan on picking up some recreational marijuana from one of the 6 active retail marijuana stores in the Municipality of Anchorage make sure you ask a lot of questions and don’t settle for bunk product just to have some smoke.
